The catch is in the language. “One day” does not mean the entire treatment finishes in twenty-four hours. It usually refers to placing the implant post and fitting a temporary crown in the same visit, with the final restoration coming months later.
What a One-Day Dental Implant Actually Includes
A dental implant is actually not a single item; it has two separate components:
- The implant itself: A small titanium post placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial root.
- The crown: The visible tooth-shaped portion that sits on top.
In a conventional dental implant procedure, these two parts are placed in separate appointments, months apart.
When a clinic offers a one-day dental implant, what they typically mean is this: the implant post is placed and a temporary crown is fitted in the same visit. You leave the clinic with something that looks like a tooth and works for light chewing.
The biology underneath still runs on its own schedule. Osseointegration, the process of the jawbone fusing around the titanium post, takes roughly three to eight months regardless of how quickly the placement was done. The permanent crown is fitted only after integration has been confirmed. In practical terms, ‘one day’ describes the placement appointment itself rather than the full span of treatment.
How the Dental Implant Procedure Works in a Single Visit
Before the day itself, the groundwork matters. The dentist will likely take a 3D cone beam CT scan of your jaw. This gives a detailed view of bone density, nerve position, and the precise angle at which the implant should sit. Without this imaging, a same-day placement is difficult to perform safely.
On the day of the procedure, most clinics follow a similar sequence:
- Local anaesthetic numbs the treatment area
- If the failing tooth is still in place, it is extracted
- The implant post is inserted into the prepared site in the jawbone

- The gums need to be free from infection or active periodontal disease.

Front teeth are often more suitable than back teeth, as there is usually adequate bone around and beyond the socket of a front tooth to stabilise an implant immediately. Back teeth often have less bone remaining after extraction and may require a bone graft first, which rules out a one-day protocol for those sites.
Whether dental implant surgery can be done in one day also depends on what else is going on in your mouth. Situations that usually make it unsuitable include:
- Active gum disease that needs to be brought under control first
- Insufficient bone volume requiring a graft before placement
- Uncontrolled diabetes or other conditions that slow healing
- Heavy smoking, which reduces blood flow and affects bone integration
A visit to an emergency dental clinic after an accident sometimes ends in a same-day implant, but only if the surrounding bone is intact and the site is clean. In most cases, a clinical assessment with 3D imaging is the only reliable way to know.
Same-Day Implants vs Traditional Dental Implant Procedure

Cost and Financial Support for Dental Implants in Singapore
Dental implants are among the more expensive procedures in dentistry, and the cost range for dental implants in Singapore is wider than many patients expect.
Two government schemes can reduce out-of-pocket costs.
- MediSave: Can be used for the surgical placement of an implant at MediSave-accredited clinics. As of 2025, the claim cap is up to $1,950 per implant for the core surgical component. Additional surgical codes may apply, and MediSave does not cover non-surgical items such as consultation fees, standard extractions, or the crown itself.
- CHAS: From October 2025, CHAS subsidy caps for permanent crowns increased, with higher support for Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation, and CHAS Blue cardholders. Seniors aged 60 and above can also draw on Flexi-MediSave, up to $400 a year, for approved outpatient treatments at accredited clinics.
